Nespresso Lattissima

Nespresso Lattissima Review – Nespresso EN550.B Lattissima Touch Automatic Coffee Machine

The Nespresso Lattissima is a premium coffee pod machine. It offers exceptional looks, speed and great tasting coffee. Whilst it doesn’t have some of the features and customisation options of a more expensive bean to cup coffee machine, it does exactly what you want from it. Delivers great tasting coffee on demand in a classy way. It also benefits from the fresh milk dispenser.

How to use the Nespresso Lattissima

Once you turn the Nespresso Lattissima on, the machine will heat up for 25 seconds. If you are choosing a milk based coffee such as a cappuccino or latte you will need to fill the milk container. Nespresso recommends skimmed or semi-skimmed milk and the fresher the better. Don’t use frozen milk or anything that you wouldn’t drink straight from a glass in the fridge. Fridge temperature is perfect.

You can then open the steam connector draw and plug in the rapid cappuccino system, the connection is hidden behind the connector draw or covers to keep it covered and full from debris when you’re not using it. Next, the Nespresso Lattissima will heat up the system, which takes 15 seconds.

Making a coffee

Nespresso LattissimaYou are now ready to make your drink! Get a cup or cappuccino glass and place it on the drip tray. On the side of the rapid cappuccino system, there is a little spout, this is where the milk comes from. Position this over your cup or glass and ensure that the milk will go into the glass.

You can then adjust the dial on the top to select how frothy the milk will be, usually, you would use a smaller amount for a cappuccino and more for a latte.

Lift the lever on top of the machine to place your coffee capsule inside. Once in you can close the lever back down on top. After your coffee has finished being dispensed reopen and close this lever to get rid of the coffee capsule.

Once you have finished with the Nespresso Lattissima for a period of time, it is worth detaching the cappuccino system and storing it back in the fridge to keep the milk fresh for your next drink. You can then also close the steam connector draw to protect the machine.

Cleaning

What we are seeing more and more now with home coffee machines is the ability to clean, very easy and the suggestion of after each cup has been dispensed. To us, this has always been something that is important as no one wants bits of crusty coffee or milk in their nice fresh drink. Plus with milk, you do have health concerns.

There is a button on top of the cappuccino system then when held starts a 16-second cleaning process. This is advised to be pressed with an empty cup under the machine after every use. These self-cleaning systems are fantastic at keeping everything fresh.

However, every few days we would always recommend that you strip the machine into its various components and give it a thorough clean.

Coffee options

The Nespresso Lattissima has the option to choose from 6 buttons on the top of the machine. These give you the option of your favourite coffee, from the following options;

  • Ristretto
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte
  • Espresso
  • Long
  • Hot milk

Included with the machine you get 14 capsules to get you started with, all of the varying flavours 11 of which are roast and ground coffee and 3 of which are decaffeinated roast and ground coffee.

Positives and Negatives

It would be unfair to compare a machine such as the Nespresso Lattissima to a bean to cup offering that takes fresh beans and turns them into coffee.

The capsule and pod style coffee machines are proving so popular at the moment and offer an amazing taste in a very short period of time.

Positives

  • Heats up in 25 seconds
  •  6 options for your drink
  • Personalised drink option to remember the amount of coffee and milk you like
  • A lot of choices when it comes to capsules available

Negatives

  • No cup warmer
  • Can only dispense one cup at a time

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Nespresso Lattissima is a fantastic pod capsule coffee machine. It is at the premium end of the pod capsule machines and there are ones starting at around £50. Do they offer the same variety of flavours, look as good or arguably produce as nice tasting coffee? We don’t think so, but that can be down to personal taste.

If you have the budget for a Nespresso and want the convenience of a pod capsule coffee machine, this is a fantastic piece of kit that we would highly recommend.
