Dyson certainly aren’t backwards in coming forwards when it comes to their V10 cordless vacuum range. They claim they know it’s the best cordless vacuum on the market so why be shy about it?
Years and years of research and millions of pounds ploughed into product development has resulted in a cordless vacuum that is head and shoulders above its rivals. Prior to its launch, the Dyson V8 was the market dominator when it came to cordless vacuums however it lost its crown once the V10 arrived in town – it can’t compete with the V10’s significantly longer battery use time and greater dust capacity.
The company has even gone as far to say, on record, that it has no current plans to design and manufacture any new corded vacuums in the future as they believe once people experience the power, cleaning capability and ease of use of the V10, there’ll no longer be a need or demand for corded models.
The V10 cordless range consists of three models:
- V10 Total Clean
- V10 Animal
- V10 Absolute
All three models are powered by the same motor – Dyson’s most compact and powerful motor to date – and come with a selection of features and accessories which have all been incorporated into the V10 design to ensure vacuuming with either the Total Clean, Animal or Absolute is a hassle-free, time-efficient, rewarding home-cleaning experience.
Only got 5 minutes
“A strong performing machine starts with an efficient motor. The Dyson digital motor V10 is Dyson’s most advanced. It’s what enabled us to entirely change the format of a vacuum cleaner, to achieve Dyson’s best ever cord-free machine performance,” said James Dyson. “The Dyson Cyclone V10 vacuum is so light, so powerful, it can deep clean anywhere in your home. It is the reason why I’ve stopped developing full-size vacuums.”
Well, that’s quite a statement!

So how the three models differ and why the difference in price?
V10 Animal RRP £399: The entry-level vacuum of the V10 cyclone range. The V10 Animal kit includes the direct-drive cleaner head, mini motorised tool, crevices tool, quick release mini soft dusting brush, docking station and charger.
V10 Absolute RRP £449: The V10 Absolute kit includes all the above, plus an additional soft-roller tool for vacuuming hard floors.
V10 Total Clean RRP £479 : the daddy of the V10 range. As well as including all the above listed for the Absolute, the V10 Total Clean kit also includes a quick-release wide nozzle tool; quick-release extension hose; and quick-release up-top adapter.
So what makes the V10 the best cordless vacuum on the market?
- It’s multi-functional: the Dyson V10 can be used as either an upright vacuum or handheld cleaner.
- It’s easy to empty: the genius ‘point and shoot’ mechanism ejects grime and dust from the dust cup straight into your bin – no backblow, no sneezes, no mess.
- Wall docking: it’s as easy as charging your phone! The V10 drops into a handy wall-mounted docking station to recharge; there’s also space to store the vacuum accessories
- Multiple power modes: the V10 has three power modes to choose from. Why waste battery life cleaning on high mode when the low and mid settings are capable of doing the job just fine?
- Longer battery life: the V10 will clean for up to 60 mins when set to low power mode allowing enough time to do a full vacuum of an average-sized family home.
- Good for allergy-sufferers: The V10 is certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly.
What makes the Dyson V10 so impressive?
It’s small and mighty – the quickest motor Dyson have ever incorporated into one of their vacuum ranges. It spins up to 125,000rpm which is an impressive increase from its predecessor the V8’s motor output of 108,000rpm. However, unlike with a corded vacuum, good things come in small packages and this little motor has brains as well as brawn. The motor is so sensitive it’s able to detect variables including height, temperature and atmospheric pressure of the surface you’re cleaning and adjusts its performance accordingly.
The V10’s cyclone and dust bin are positioned parallel to the spine of the vacuum and, as a result, this optimises airflow and increases suction. The dust capacity has increased from 0.54L to 0.76L, which means less emptying and so fewer trips to the bin; the redesigned ‘point and shoot’ emptying mechanism means when it does come to emptying, there’s no chance of overspill.
An unbelievable 14 cyclone chambers create forces in excess of 79,000G which in turn flings microscopic particles into the dust cup with little or no chance of any pesky pollen or bacteria escaping. The V10 shows Dyson have put some serious time and money into developing their cyclone technology in order to achieve the strongest suction ever seen with a cordless vacuum.
An extra power mode
There are three power settings on the Dyson V10 – low, medium and maximum. Obviously the lower the setting, the less battery you’ll use but it’s worth knowing you’ve got the higher settings to hand when tackling particularly tough stains or surfaces. The maximum setting offers some serious suction!
The V10’s filtration process is remarkable with Dyson claiming the filter is capable of capturing 99.97% of air-born allergens even those as small as 0.3 microns. An LED indicator will alert you to when the filter needs cleaning and it’s easy to detach from the body of the V10 as to remove, it just takes one simple anti-clockwise twisting motion.
Increased battery life
The V10 has a much more energy-dense battery than its predecessor the V8 and as a result, Dyson claims the V10 is capable of vacuuming continuously for up to 60 minutes when being used on the low power setting – that’s more than enough time for most of us to do a total house clean!. Once the battery’s ready for a recharge, 3.5hrs is the time you’re looking at to go from completely drained to full charge – not bad considering how long it runs for once it’s back to 100% power.
The Dyson V10 is undoubtedly impressive but, at the end of the day, it’s still a vacuum, and a powerful one at that, so inevitably, it’s going to make noise. The good news is that it’s definitely quieter than any other Dyson Cyclone range and when tested came in 7dB below the sound level at which hearing protection is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions
A lengthy comprehensive warranty is a trademark of Dyson when it comes to their vacuums. They believe in the longevity of their designs and the warranty they offer on all new purchases in testament to this. The Dyson Cyclone V10 comes with a 5-year warranty, which includes cover against manufacturing defects and faulty workmanship. This warranty covers all labour and parts required in order to restore your Dyson vacuum to full working order.
The V10 uses a trigger system which means the vacuum will only power up when the trigger button is pressed. It’s controversial as some consumers don’t like the fact that they constantly have to apply pressure however Dyson is adamant that the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to their trademark trigger system. When pressing the trigger it really doesn’t require much pressure and is located where you would naturally grip the handle so it’s unlikely to be uncomfortable. Also, as a result of the battery not being constantly drained, you get a longer battery use-time meaning you can get more cleaning done from a single charge.
